Review ‘Want you dead’ by Peter James
In Peter James’ Want You Dead, Red Westwood meets handsome, charming and rich thirty-five year old Bryce Laurent through an online dating agency, and is instantly attracted to him. He looks the perfect and romantic man. Red’s mother didn’t like Brice from the beginning so she hired a private eye to investigate Brice past. The truth about his past begins to emerge, and with it his dark side. Everything he has told Red about himself turns out to be a tissue of lies and her infatuation with him gradually turns to terror. He tuns out to be violent man and he abuse Red both physically and psychologically.
Within a year, and with police support, she evicts him from her flat and her life. But far from being over, her nightmare is only just beginning. For Bryce is obsessed and besotted with her. Bryce begins his campaign of terror against Red by burning alive her current boyfriend, Dr. Karl Murphy. He intends to destroy everything and everyone she has ever known and loved-and then her, too.
It’s up to Detective Superintendent Roy Grace to stop him before it’s too late…
This was the first book I read from Peter James and in general I liked it. The story was well written, specially the action and the fire scenes. The characters are simple and believable, except Brice Laurent, who seems be an expert in most of everything.
Sometimes I got a little tired with much detail and repetition, for example when Roy Grace dreamed with his ex-wife and the same scene was described again.
In my experience in reading series, not all books are good. Maybe this was not the best one to start with. It doesn’t mean the author hadn’t written a good one. So I’m going to read another one and see.
